Shoot smashes it for charity

A clay pigeon shoot at Nettleton Lodge Shooting Ground has raised over £1,500 for two local charities including emergency response charity LIVES.

The annual event, sponsored by Lincoln Level Shots, has become a firm favourite with clay pigeon shooting enthusiasts with almost 60 participants this year. Entry fees, together with donations from the raffle and sponsored beard shave, helped raise an incredible £1,524 for charity, of which LIVES received over £800.

Gemma Shaw, Head of Fundraising and Communications at LIVES, said: “We would like to thank everyone who supported this event. LIVES is here, across our communities in Lincolnshire, because of fundraising events like these. They fund the lifesaving equipment and monthly training our responders need to be there for those 999 medical emergencies; those life events we never want to think about.”

LIVES responded to over 12,000 emergency 999 call last year. 891 of those were road traffic collisions. Responders often attend these calls close to their home, ensuring that when minutes matter, help is close by.

Ben Jacob from Nettleton Lodge Shooting Ground hosted the clay pigeon shoot this year. Her said: “We had such a good day. The weather was perfect and there was a great atmosphere. We are really enjoying welcoming shooters back after lockdown.

“We’ve been running this event for 12 years now and we have chosen to support LIVES after seeing the vital work that my neighbour has done as a LIVES Responder.”

LIVES saw a considerable drop in community fundraising events in the last 18 months due to national lockdown restrictions. The charity needs £1.4 million each year to keep its army of Responders fully trained and equipped to be there when the worst happens.
