WHAT IS CEMS?

WHAT IS CEMS?

A service commissioned by Lincolnshire ICB for the purpose of:

  • Assessment & Management of the Patient in their own home or community setting wherever it is safe, appropriate and in the patient’s best interest
  • To ensure patients get the right treatment in the right setting at the right time, as early in their patient journey as possible
  • To avoid unnecessary attendance of ambulance resources, conveyance to ED and admission to hospital
  • To support other organisations working in the community through senior clinician input
  • To provide a mentored professional development platform/approved practice setting for clinicians who wish to follow a pre-hospital urgent or emergency care career pathway.

A fully staffed CEMS vehicle consists of an Advanced Clinical Practitioner / Doctor crewed with a CEMS Practitioner from a nurse/paramedic background with enhanced training.

Clinicians come from primary, urgent and emergency care backgrounds to provide a multi-disciplinary team with a wide skillset.

INCLUSION/EXCLUSION

Inclusion: Any emergency call

Exclusion: Nothing

CEMS is designed to be flexible and responsive to assist EMAS and the ICB to provide care whenever it is needed.  Crews train in Advanced Life Support, Advanced Paediatric Life Support and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support for high acuity cases; as well as possessing a range of generalist emergency and urgent care skills. The most appropriate utility will depend on 999 calls being held, other resources available and geographical location. CEMS teams will add value to a wide range of emergency calls.

IF UNSURE IF WE CAN HELP, ASK CONTROL FOR US , WE ARE ALWAYS HAPPY TO HAVE A DISCUSSION WITH ANY CREW.
