80-Year-Old Takes on 400-Mile Cycling Challenge to Raise Funds for LIVES
This summer, 80-year-old John Whitbread is taking on an extraordinary cycling challenge in support of LIVES — riding over 400 miles in just six days, from 27 June to 2 July 2025.
John will travel to and from six different locations across Lincolnshire, covering an impressive 66 miles per day, to raise vital funds for LIVES — the charity that trains and equips volunteer Emergency Responders to attend 999 medical emergencies in communities across the county.
“They recruit, train and equip all of their Emergency Responders so they can be there when needed the most,” John explains, “ensuring that from attending a cardiac arrest to performing life-saving surgery on the roadside, they are present at 999 medical emergencies every single day.”
John’s passion for cycling and admiration for the work of LIVES has inspired him to take on this personal challenge.
“People say I’m old, but I say it’s the stage of life, not the age,” he says.
John is hoping to raise £500 to support LIVES’ mission of saving lives and providing critical care when every second counts.
